PHYSICAL TRAINING
Physical training has become an essential part in the development of high-level junior tennis players. Tennis has become an ultra physical game over the years and JMG Tennis focuses on several main components when working with its players.
First, flexibility and injury prevention is the number one priority for us. Keeping a player healthy is a key to the progression in their game. Second, is stamina. Junior tennis is similar to competing in a marathon. Junior tournaments are scheduled, where players could be playing 6 to 8 sets in one day. Players must have the stamina to finish a tournament if they want to be able to win the tournament! Lastly, strengthening the core and leg muscles is critically important. By strengthening these two muscle groups, we will improve the player’s rotation, speed, and balance. At JMG Tennis, fitness and conditioning runs three to four days a week in the group academy directed by the coaches. Additionally, JMG Tennis trainer, Donnell Ragsdale, works with many of the players from the academy individually and joins the program on court during summer hours four days a week. We know our players are unique and will have different physical training needs, so our staff is in regular communication with Donnell so he can tailor his program to meet individual success. |
